Abstract

Chondrodendron liunaciifoliztwz is a constituent of Tecuna and Chazuta curares, but, although containing highly toxic materials, the plant is known not to possess curare-active alkaloids (Folkers and Unna, Arch. Int. Pharunakodyn., 1939,61, 372). It is shown that the dried wood contains about 5% of basic material, most of which is amorphous. isochondrodendrine has been isolated, together with two new, non-quaternary bases. iso-Chondrodendrine dimethyl ether is absent. The ferric chloride reactions of the alkaloids are discussed, and related to the alkaloids' structures.
