Abstract

In addition to diosgenin, tigogenin, tomatidenol, tomatidine, leptinidine, 5alpha,6-dihydroleptinidine, solasodine and soladulcidine, a new alkaloid has been isolated from the roots of Solanum panduraeforme, which has been identified as (23R)-23-hydroxysoladulcidine [(23R,25R)-5alpha,22alphaN-spirosolane-3beta,23-diol]. The stereochemistry of some solanidanes is discussed.
