The Partition Chromatography of Alkaloids: Part III.—The Alkaloids ofPunica Granatum

Abstract

The application of partition chromatography to the separation of the alkaloids of Punica Granatum and of 'pelletierine tannate' has been studied. Different samples of Punica Granatum contain widely different proportions of pelletierine, pseudopelletierine and methylisopelletierine. Commercial samples of 'pelletierine tannate' may contain little or no pelletierine, which exhibits the highest activity of the pomegranate alkaloids against the liver fluke. Powdered glass has been found suitable as a carrier for the stationary phase of partition chromatographic columns.
