From the epigeal part of P. rhinanthoides Schrenk., collected on July 21, 1966 in the flowering period in the gorge of the R. Nura, KirgSSR, 0.3% of total alkaloids were obtained by chloroform extraction; the ethereal fraction treated with acetone gave 0.04% plantagonine, and the mother liquor separated on an alumina column (eluant: ether-chloroform 9:1) yielded a liquid base identified as the dextrorotatory form of 1-tecostidine. From the epigeal part of P. olgae Rgl., collected on June 15, 1968 in the flowering period in Saed village, TadzhSSR, 0.65% total alkaloids were obtained, from which 0.11% plantagonine was isolated. From the seeds of cotton variety 10S-F, a fraction with malate dehydrogenase activity was isolated; the process included defatting the ground seed coats, extracting with 0.01 M phosphate buffer (pH 7.4) containing EDTA and β-mercaptoethanol, centrifugation, ammonium sulfate fractional precipitation (20%-50% saturation), dissolving the precipitate, and passing through a Sephadex G-25 column.
