Abstract

In this study, two kinds of extracts from roots of Asparagus racemosus were analysed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) with photodiode array (PDA) detector on C18 column utilising water and acetonitrile as mobile phase under isocratic elution at 205 nm. The average amount of shatavarin IV in two kinds of dry extract was 0.36 and 3.42 % (w/w). In addition, the total phenolic and total flavonoid contents were measured by colorimetry using the Folin-Ciocalteu and aluminum chloride reagents. The results showed that amounts of total phenolic and total flavonoid in two kinds of dry extract were 2.92 and 3.67 % (w/w) as gallic acid equivalent and 0.68 and 0.71 % (w/w) as quercetin equivalent, respectively.
