Abstract

From the dried fruits of Alungium lumarckii, a novel tetrahydroisoquinoline-monoterpene glucoside, 3-0 demethyl-2-0-methylalangiside, was isolated along with alangiside. Reexamination of the constituents of the roots of Cephaelis ipecacuanha led to the isolation and identification of this same compound, as well as alangiside and that of another new glucoside, 7-0-methylipecoside. The structures of these two new glucosides were determined by spectroscopic and chemical means.
