Two novel bisindole alkaloids have been isolated from Pandaca caducifolia (Mgf): ervafolidene (10) and epi-ervafolidene (11). Their structure has been established by spectral analysis (especially ¹³C nmr) and by comparison with the known alkaloid ervafolene (3), also isolated from the plant. Several unusual reactions of 3 are described, among which is a rearrangement pertaining to the pandoline moiety of the molecule.
