<jats:title>Abstract</jats:title><jats:p>Two new benzophenanthridine alkaloids, named 8‐methoxysanguinarine (<jats:bold>1</jats:bold>) and 8‐methoxyisodecarine (<jats:bold>2</jats:bold>), were isolated from the EtOH extract of the rhizoma of <jats:italic>Zanthoxylum nitidum.</jats:italic> Their structures were determined on the basis of spectroscopic analysis.
