Extensive column chromatography of the ethanolic extracts from the roots of Taxus mairei and subsequent purification of taxanes by HPLC gave two derivatives of baccatin I and one derivative of taxchin. The structural assignments of the taxoids were based on their spectral data, including 2D NMR experiments and chemical correlation. X-ray crystallographic analysis of 1β-hydroxybaccatin I provided unambiguous characterization for the structures and relative stereochemistries of the other taxanes.
