In a continuation of our studies on the constituents of Verbascum species, we have investigated V. dentifolium Del. This paper describes the isolation and characterization of two new iridoid glycosides 3 and 4, together with four known iridoids: aucubin, harpagide, harpagoside and pulverulentoside I 2. All the isolated compounds were identified by means of spectroscopic methods. Iridoid glycosides are chemotaxonomic markers of the family Scrophulariaceae, to which the genus Verbascum belongs. Aucubin, catalpol and their derivatives, all substituted at C-6 position, are the most common iridoid glycosides for Verbascum. According to the previous studies on the composition of Verbascum species, V. dentifolium also shows aucubin, catalpol and its derivatives as specific chemotaxonomic markers. It is also interesting to note that the acylated angeloside is being described for the first time in the family Scrophulariaceae.
