Given the limited information on polyphenols in the cambial zone and the questionable theory that wood and bark polyphenols are synthesized there, this study collected more information on polyphenols of eucalypt cambium, sapwood, and heartwood. Cambium samples of Eucalyptus regnans and Eucalyptus sieberiana were extracted with acetone and methanol, while wood samples were extracted with methanol. Two-way paper chromatography, cellulose powder column chromatography, and various spray reagents were used for analysis. Components such as (+) catechin, (-) epicatechin, and shikimic acid were identified by comparison with authentic samples. However, closely related compounds were difficult to isolate in pure form due to decomposition during purification. Data are summarized in Tables 1 and 2 and Figures A and B.
