Abstract

Five new sesquiterpene pyridine alkaloids, named wilfordinines D(1), E(2), F(3), G(4) and H(5), along with six known compounds have been isolated from the extracts (Tn) of Tripterygium wilfordii HOOK F. In order to determine which of the components present in the extracts (TH) are responsible for such diverse activities, we started work on the isolation of the active principles of the extract (TH) of T. wilfordii. Powdered extracts (TH) of T. wilfordii Hook F. were separated by repeated silica gel column chromatography, HPLC and gel permeation chromatography (GPC), to give compounds 1 - 11. Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopy.
