Abstract

Abstract
By chromatographic examination of the extracts of various tissues of the Victoria plum (Prunus domestica var. Victoria), little difference was noted in the samples collected at different times of the year. Scopoletin, (+)‐catechin, (‐)‐epicatechin, rutin and chlorogenic acid have been identified in the extracts. The strong blue fluorescence of the pathological heartwood under ultra‐violet light was attributed to scopoletin. A pronounced difference exists between the phenolic constituents of the woody tissues of Victoria plum and those of the Asian Prunus spp.
