Treatment of secoiridoid glucosides from fruits of Ligustrum vulgare L.1) with 5 % H2SO4 and subsequently with NH3 results in up to 12 spots on TLC which give positive tests for alkaloids. Four of these compounds have been isolated. LA 1 (1), LA 2 (2) and LA 6 (3) are new pyridine alkaloids, LA 12 (4) is identical with jasminine, previously isolated from a number of Jasminum species, Ligustrum novoguineense Lingelsheim2) and Olea paniculata R.
