Abstract

A new alkaloid, 18-hydroxylochnerine (3), has been obtained from leaves, stem, and root barks of Rauvolfia biauriculata. Eight other known alkaloids were also isolated: lochnerine (1), lochvinerine (2), 21-hydroxycyclolochnerine (6), vomilenine, perakine, ajmaline, corynanthine, and reserpiline. A tenth alkaloid (7), a yohimbine, has been isolated; the stereochemistry could not be determined, and its exact structure remains unknown. © 1986, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
