Three 3-nitropropanoyl esters of D-glucose were isolated from Indigofero linnaei, the known 1,2,6&-O-(3 nitropropanoyl)-fi-Dglucopyranose (karakin) and 2,3,4,6-tetra-0-(3-nitropropanoyl)-a-D-ghIcopyranose, and the apparently previously undescribed 3,4.6-tri-o-(3-nitropropanoyl)-a-D-glucopyranose. The use of countercurrent chromatography for the isolation of these compounds is described, as well as the spectroscopic evidence which led lo their structural elucidation.
