Abstract

1,2,4,6-Tetra-(3-nitropropanoyl)-β-D-glucopyranose (hiptagin) was isolated from foliage and roots of Lotus pedunculatus together with 1,4,6-tri-(3-nitropropanoyl)-β-D-glucopyranose (karakin), 2,6-di-(3-nitropropanoyl)-D-glucopyranose (coronarian) and 1,6-di-(3-nitropropanoyl)-β-D-glucopyranose (cibarian). Structural assignments for hiptagin were made on the basis of 400 MHz ¹H NMR; the compound significantly reduced feeding by third instar larvae of Costelytra zealandica.
