Abstract

The aerial parts of Lupinus varius L. contain the alkaloids LV-I (0.10 per cent.) and (+)-epilupinine (0.50 per cent.) previously reported in the seeds, together with (-)-sparteine (0.006 per cent.) and small amounts of two mono-nitrogen bases LV-3 (C20H27O4N, containing one methoxyl group) and LT7-4 (C17H23O5N). The proportion of LV-1 present in the leaves is higher than that in the seeds, while the amount of (+)-epilupinine-N-oxide is much lower.
