Abstract

A new glycosidic alkaloid, (-)-(trans-3'-methoxy-4'-alpha-L-rhamnosyloxy cinnamoyl) epilupinine, was isolated from the aerial parts of Lupinus varius, together with the eight known alkaloids, (-)-(trans-4'-alpha-L-rhamnosyloxycinnamoyl) epilupinine, (+)-(trans-4'-hydroxy-3'-methoxy-cinnamoyl) epilupinine, (+)-epilupinine, (+)-epilupinine-N-oxide, (-)-multiflorine, (-)-delta(5)-dehydromultiflorine, (+)-ammodendrine and (-)-sparteine. Benzoyl epilupinine was identified by GC-mass spectral analysis. The structure of the new glycosidic alkaloid was determined by chemical and spectroscopic methods. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science Ltd.
