Abstract

Two amino acids have been isolated from seed of Blighia unijugata. The compounds were characterized as trans-α-(2-carboxymethylcyclopropyl)glycine and 2-amino-5-methyl-6-hydroxyhex-4-enoic acid following analysis of their hydrogenation products and NMR and mass spectra. The structures of the two compounds are discussed in relation to other C₇ amino acids occurring in members of the Sapindaceae and Hippocastanaceae.
