Abstract

Xylopia maccreae (F.Muell.) L.S. Sm. produced an essential oil in which the major component was bicyclogermacrene (34%), with β-cubebene, β-caryophyllene and germacrene D (all <7%) being significant components. The oil yield was 0.3-0.5%. Xylopia sp. (Bertiehaugh Homestead C. Dalliston CC173) gave an oil in which spathulenol (31%) was the principal component, together with globulol, viridiflorol and caryophyllene oxide (all <10%), while bicyclogermacrene (1.4%) was also present. The oil yield was 0.02%.
