Abstract

The reaction of the purine alkaloid triacanthine with benzyl chloride in two temperature regimes produced multicomponent mixtures consisting of benzyl derivatives of triacanthine and adenine. The structures of the synthesized products were elucidated by X-ray crystal structure analyses and NMR spectroscopy. The adenine N10 atom in the studied compounds had planar sp 2-hybridization although it adopted tetrahedral sp 3-hybridization with two benzyl groups on it. © 2023, Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature.
