Abstract

A series of flavones was studied for their DNA-gyrase inhibitory and antibacterial activities. This led to the identification of compounds with potent Escherichia coli DNA-gyrase inhibitory activity, and modest antimicrobial activity. The most active compound, ellagic acid has au ICm = 3.3 pg/ml, which is comparable to some of the cunently marketed 4-quinolone antibacte&ls.
